Identity of the organization

International Centre for Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment (SDEWES Centre), VAT: HR32475284418, is an NGO based in Ivana Lučića 5, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia (hereinafter referred to as SDEWES Center) is responsible for the handling of your personal data on this website.

This privacy statement explains how we use and protect your information. SDEWES Centre collects only the necessary basic information about the users necessary for fulfilling our obligations, informs users about the manner of using the collected data, regularly gives users the possibility of choosing using their data, including the ability to decide whether or not to remove their name from the mailing list.

Type of personal data we collect and how we do it:

  • Personal information related to your identity and may include your name, surname, title, your e-mail address, Croatian OIB for members (if applicable) and the name, full address and VAT of your institution/employer.
  • The range of personal data that SDEWES Centre collects depends on the type of service that SDEWES Centre provides to its users and / or customers, as well as on the legal basis for collecting data. SDEWES Centre continuously takes care of collecting only the necessary personal data needed to achieve the legally defined purpose in which data are processed.
  • We are collecting only the information required for the provision of the service, but not the information related to payment for services that require payments (conference and publishing fees and memberships), so data such as credit card numbers and other confidential information is transferred to security Protocol (SSL) to WSPay billing system and are by no means stored in the SDEWES Centre system.
  • SDEWES Centre collects data directly from the users themselves, from publicly available sources (for example, public contact information on web pages) and indirectly in the case of scientific papers that are submitted for presentation at the conference and/or publication in scientific journals, and which have multiple authors, therefore it is necessary that one of the authors lists the personal data of other co-authors.

Use of collected data

We will use the data we collect about you to provide you with the best possible service. Accordingly, some of the ways in which we can use your personal information are:

  • To identify you as an event participant
  • To identify you and your co-authors as authors of scientific papers
  • In order to contact you with information about the SDEWES Centre, inform you of the events organized by the Croatian Energy Transition initiative (projects under the initiative are listed on het.hr), international scientific SDEWES conference series, and publishing in partner scientific journals and JSDEWES journal
  • In order for organizers of events organized as part of the Croatian Energy Transition initiative (het.hr) contact you with information about the events and the results of the projects.
  • To notify you of important information related to the events for which you have applied, event reports, and information related to similar upcoming events that may be of interest to you
  • General information that is not in any way connected with you and may be used by SDWES Centre as such for any legally permitted purpose.

All personal data is strictly kept and only available to authorized SDEWES Centre employees and partly to event (workshops, conferences etc.) co-organizers if necessary, for example, to issue invoices, for legal obligations or obligations as part of a project (e.g. for the purpose of recording and validating the identity of the participant) and only in the minimum necessary extent. Co-organizer of events under the Croatian Energy Transition initiative might contact you with some information about the project or event organized under the initiative (het.hr).

Collected personal information will be kept while there are events (workshops and conferences under the Croatian Energy Transition initiative and SDEWES conference series) co-organized by the SDEWES Centre that we believe might be of interest to you. You can change your mind at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link at the foot of each e-mail received or by contacting sdewes@sdewes.org.

Access and update your personal information

Our user has the following rights at any time:

  • right to access their data
  • the right to have information about the processing of personal data
  • the right to data transferability
  • the right to withdraw consent
  • the right to file a complaint
  • the right for correction and change of personal data in case the data are incomplete or inaccurate
  • the right to delete in cases such as termination of the purpose of processing, withdrawal of consent or in the event of an objection

By sending a query to e-mail sdewes@sdewes.org, SDEWES Centre will provide users with access to their personal data, correction of inaccurate personal data, deletion of personal data or limitation of processing their personal data, and to inform them of the possibility of objecting to the processing of their personal data and the right to data transfer.

Our websites are maintained regularly and are trying to protect them against any unauthorized use. SDEWES Centre reserves the right to modify and supplement this Statement at any time, without giving any special notice to interested parties.   • The "Summer School on Energy Planning of 100% Renewable Energy Systems" , held from September 2 to 6, 2024 at the Inter University Center, Dubrovnik, was focused on energy and climate modeling of smart energy systems along with dynamic modeling of relevant ecological, economic, sociological and technical parameters.
    24 participants from 16 different countries took part in the summer school. In addition to acquiring new knowledge, the participants used the full potential of the summer school and had a lot of fun, met new friends, colleagues or possible partners in future projects and research!

  • Međunarodni centar za održivi razvoj energetike, voda i okoliša (SDEWES Centre) raspisuje natječaj za nagrađivanje diplomskih radova studenata Fakulteta strojarstva i brodogradnje Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Pravo prijave imaju svi studenti s diplomskim radom obranjenim u akademskoj godini 2022./2023. s ocjenom izvrstan i s temom iz područja održivog razvoja energetike, voda i okoliša.   • Project 'COASTENERGY' was declared the best EU project in Croatia in the category 'Contribution to science and innovation'. In this year's selection for the "Best County EU" project in Croatia, among 37 other candidates, the winner in the "Contribution to science and innovation" category was the Istrian County project COASTENERGY - Blue energy in ports and coastal urban areas. The project also won third place according to the popular public votes. SDEWES Centre participated in the project as a project partner in charge of the WP3.

  • Povjerenstvo Međunarodnog centra za održivi razvoj energetike, voda i okoliša (SDEWES Centre) odabralo je tri najbolja diplomska rada studenata FSB-a za 2019./20. te za 2020./21. Autori najboljih radova su Dino Kovačević u ak. godini 2019./20. te Dominik Rašić u ak. godini 2020./21. Prvoplasirani će biti nagrađeni s novčanom nagradom od 5.000,00 HRK svaki, a drugo i trećeplasirani imaju pravo na besplatnu kotizaciju za bilo koju od SDEWES konferencija u 2022. godini. Čestitamo

  • 20 members of the SDEWES International Scientific Committee were listed among the 2% most influential scientists in the world today in the updated list for citation year 2020. The list has been made and updated by a group of researchers from Stanford University led by professor John Ioannidis. They surveyed 100,000 top scientists using Scopus database and classified them into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields.
    “We have created a publicly available database that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator”, the authors explained.

A committee consisting of Prof. Nataša Markovska, Prof. Nikola Ružinski and Prof. Aleksander Zidanšek made a decision on the three best graduate theses and the best authors are Mario Majdandžić, Luka Pavlinek and Vanja Kušen. Best thesis author, Mario Majdandžić will receive a cash prize in the amount of 5,000 HRK and the other two authors will receive a fee waiver for one of SDEWES conferences in 2018. Congratulations!

  • FosterREG website has been launched! FosterREG aims at enhancing public capacity at local, regional and national levels to plan, finance and manage integrated urban regeneration for sustainable energy uptake.
