The International Centre for Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES Centre) is a non-governmental and a non-profit scientific organization based in Zagreb, Croatia.
It engages in specific R&D activities that address the problems common for the countries of the East and Southeast European and Mediterranean regions.
Vision: Providing a platform for communication and exchange of ideas between scientist and researchers that promotes multidisciplinary approach to sustainability.
Mission: Creating multidisciplinary research and development innovation teams and providing comprehensive R&D activities, assessment and consultation on the research subjects that represent the most important challenges of sustainable development.
SDEWES Centre has almost 800 regular and supporting members from over 50 countries (6 continents). Its members are experts, professors, scientists, students and business people in the field of sustainable development of energy, water and environment systems.

SDEWES Centre is the executive organizer of the SDEWES conference series, which has emerged as the leading conference on the topic of sustainability and is currently one of the best scientific conferences on the topic in the world.
SDEWES Conference series started in 2002 in Dubrovnik, Croatia and has been growing ever since. The last SDEWES Conference in Dubrovnik brought together 540 distinguished scientists, project leaders, government representatives and other experts from 65 countries from all continents.
The Conference has been a biannual event until 2012 when it became an annual event but with a unique location regime. Every two years, the Conference is held in Dubrovnik, which has become a permanent seat of the Conference, and in the years between, the Conference is held on different locations.
In 2012 it was held in Macedonia and in 2014 on a cruiser from Venice to Istanbul and back.
SDEWES2016 will be held in Lisbon, Portugal.
In 2014, a regional series of the Conference was introduced, that focuses on South East Europe. The 1st regional SEE SDEWES Conference was successfully held in Ohrid, Macedonia and the 2nd regional
SEE SDEWES was held in Piran, Slovenia in 2016.

SDEWES Centre is currently involved in several EU projects (FP7 and H2020) and provides expert opinions and guidance to partners. The work performed by SDEWES research groups reflects the sustainability aspects integrated in the SDEWES Centre statute and other decisions and Conference resolutions.

SDEWES Centre has developed excellent cooperation with many leading journals and institutions, which helps its members and conference participants to publish their excellent research results.
Papers from SDEWES Conferences are published in special issues in numerous partner journals such as Applied Energy, Energy - The International Journal, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy Conversion and Management and
many others.
Since 2013, SDEWES Centre also publishes an international, open-source, scientific Journal of Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems – JSDEWES, dedicated to the improvement and dissemination of knowledge on methods, policies and technologies for increasing the sustainability of development.
JSDEWES publishes in yearly volumes and quarterly issues, and is indexed ina many online databeses such as Scopus, Inspec, Doaj, Hrcak and others.
